March 9, 2012  |  F/W 2012, PARIS, WOMEN

FUTURE WARRIORS
Paris: Gareth Pugh opened the show with what could have been misconstrued as a monster costume, were it not fashioned entirely in glossy fur. Moving on to full-skirted, spiked shoulder dresses, the theme took form — these were apocalyptic women warriors — and the two-tone atmosphere of grey and black made it clear that these were hardened souls. A definite air of protection, so prevalent this season, permeated things — chin-length funnel necks, second-skin leather leggings and body-obstructing silhouettes gave the models a “don’t mess with me” feel. In all the futuristic drama, there were a wearable items too, like satin tunics and body-con sheaths. Maybe the boots will even catch on; they appeared to be panels of fabric that were simply pulled up around the foot and tied below the knee.  —Anna Jane Davis
Silhouette:  Cocoons / Tents / Body-con
Color:  Black / Grey
Key Items:  Satin tunic / Leather leggings / Lightweight, voluminous poncho
Materials: Satin / Cut fringe / Lustrous lightweight wool / Heavy felt-like wool / Snakeskin on jersey backing / Leather / Fur
Details + Trim: Funnel necks / Spiked shoulders / Exposed zippers / Leather piecing + sleeves / Wrapped closures
Accessories + Footwear: Satin “bag” boots
